CLARKSVILLE — The City of Clarksville is ready to face the new fiscal year that begins Oct. 1 after passing a balanced $2,345,370 budget during a Tuesday night meeting in City Hall. The new budget will be financed based on an approved tax rate of .631218 cents per $100 evaluation of property as well as other sources.
The new tax rate will decrease the tax for maintenance and operations by 1.73% which translates into a saving of $13.88 on a home valued at $100,000.
The council also passed a new water and sewer rate structure for residents using city utilities.
Utility customers will still be billed for usage, but the tiers of usage have been changed.
Those residential customers that use less than 1,000 gallons will not be affected by the new structure as the rate remains at $21.50.
The base rate for those using 1,001 to 3,000 will be $36.50.
The rates will then increase based on gallons used. If clients use more than 3,000 gallons up to 6,000 gallons, the base rate remains $36.60, but there is a $4 fee added to every 1,000 gallons from 4,000 to 6,000 gallons of usage.
Customers who use 6,001 to 9,000 gallons will have a base rate of $48.50. Those going beyond 6,000 gallons will pay another $4 per 1,000 gallons up to the 9,000 gallon limit.
The new rate structure continues as it builds off increments of 3,000 gallons including 9,001 to 12,000, 12,001 to 15,000 and 15,001 and up.
The residential sewer rate follows the same 3,000 gallons incremental changes and the commercial rates also changed into a tier system.
The new rate structure will be posted on the city’s website, officials said. The structure will take effect Oct. 1 and be reflected in the customers’ November bills.
