DETROIT — The Detroit Independent School District Board of Trustees approved tax rates for the new fiscal year beginning in June and handled some head start issues at a Monday night meeting in the high school library.
The 2022-23 school district rate is $1.166665 per $100 of assessed value, lower than last year’s rate of 1.2165.
The district was allowed to set a lower tax rate while collecting more taxes due to the increase in property valuations this year. increase. Funds raised from the new rate will go towards his $7,885,578 academic year budget passed in June.
Head Start Program Director Shelli Greer explained that the district must approve the Head Start TTA plan. The TTA plan is designed to improve the knowledge, skills, and practices of grantee staff to implement the program.
She also asked the board to approve the school district’s participation in the Child and Adult Care Food Program and to approve her application for the 2023 Head Start Grant, which will run from January 1 through December 31. requested to approve.
The Board mandated that all three requests be passed unanimously.
Superintendent Kathy Thompson told the board that the district currently has 527 students and has an attendance rate of 97.2% so far this year.
She also announced that students will be taking time off to attend the Red River County Fair on September 22-23. The student has her September 26th and her October 3rd off so she also gets a three-day weekend.
The Board also decided to hold the next School Board meeting on October 17th.
