Genocide in the midst of general indifference

Lacking courage, Western countries allow Israel to massacre the Palestinian people in the Gaza enclave. Western leaders are complicit in these war crimes.

On the thirtieth day of the war against Hamas, the Israeli army continues to advance in Gaza, killing more civilians every day. Tsahal targets hospitals, ambulances, refugee camps and buildings housing journalists and their media. More than 10,000 people have been killed, 40% of them children, not counting the wounded whom hospitals are unable to receive or treat. More than 57 United Nations staff were killed, along with some 30 journalists. The population is surviving in appalling conditions, without water, food, electricity or medicine. A true genocide.

“No respect for international law”

The President of the Palestinian Authority, Mahmoud Abbas, received Antony Blinken, the US Secretary of State, in Ramallah this Sunday, November 5, 2023. He denounced the “genocide” carried out by Israel. “I have no words to describe the war of genocide and destruction being waged on our Palestinian people in Gaza by Israel’s military apparatus, without any respect for the principles of international law,” he told the representative of American diplomacy.
Blinken confined himself timidly to warning Israel against “the forced displacement of Palestinians” from the Gaza Strip. He also warned against “extremist violence” against Palestinians in the occupied West Bank.

Pope calls for ceasefire

On Sunday, Pope Francis once again called for an end to the fighting and for the release of hostages held by Hamas. “I beg you in the name of God to stop, cease fire. I hope that every possibility will be explored so that a widening of the conflict can be absolutely avoided, so that the wounded can be helped, so that aid can reach Gaza where the humanitarian situation is very serious, and so that the hostages can be freed immediately,” continued the Pontiff after the Angelus mass before the many faithful gathered in Saint Peter’s Square.

A timid France

France, which in this case as in all others naively follows the American position, remains timid in the face of the human drama unfolding in Gaza. Foreign Minister Catherine Colonna may have called for “an immediate humanitarian truce”, but her words were lost in the desert sand.
Emmanuel Macron, concerned about the turn of events in France, with an upsurge in anti-Semitic acts and ever-larger demonstrations in support of Palestine, called for a humanitarian conference to be held in Paris on November 9. “We are calling for this humanitarian truce because the fight against terrorism does not justify sacrificing civilians,” explained the French head of state on October 3, during a visit to Finistère after the passage of storm Ciaran.
Meanwhile, Israel continues its massive and deadly strikes on the Gaza Strip. How far? How long will this madness continue?
