Google Maps Street View revolutionized digital exploration by allowing users to virtually visit any location captured by Google’s cameras. However, if you’re concerned about your privacy and don’t want your house visible on Street View, you can request to have it blurred. This process is permanent, so be sure you’re certain before proceeding, as once your home is blurred, it cannot be undone. Similarly, only request to blur your own property—blurring someone else’s home is irreversible and not permitted.
Here’s how you can blur your house on Google Maps Street View:
- Locate Your Home: Start by searching for your address in Google Maps. Enter your address into the search bar and select the Street View image that appears at the bottom of the left-hand menu. Alternatively, you can click the small person icon in the bottom-right corner of the map to enter Street View and navigate to your home.
- Report a Problem: Once your house is visible in Street View, click the three vertical dots next to the address, then select “Report a problem.” Alternatively, you can click the “Report a problem” button in the bottom-right corner of the Street View window. This will open Google Maps’ “Report Inappropriate Street View” form for your address. If the address or image does not match your home, restart the process to avoid blurring someone else’s property.
- Adjust the Blur Area: You can adjust the blur area by zooming in or out with the + and – buttons, or by dragging the map to reposition the blur window. Select the portion of the image you want to blur.
- Select the Blur Option: Choose “My home” from the list of elements to blur. You can skip the “Report image quality” section.
- Submit Your Request: Enter your email address as Google requires it for processing your request. Complete the reCAPTCHA to confirm you’re not a robot.
The duration of the blurring process can vary, and Google may contact you via the email provided if additional information is needed. Once processed, your home will be obscured from Street View, protecting your privacy.
