The 6th District Court sentenced former Reno Mayor Bart Jetton to serve out the remainder of his probation and serve at least 45 days in a minimum-security prison designed for substance abuse treatment, according to Lamar County Chief Deputy District Clerk Suzanne Roberts.
“He was put back on probation and has to serve what they call ISF for a period of time,” Roberts said Friday.
Jetton must serve the remainder of his five-year probation, which came with 250 hours of community service, and serve in an intermediate sanction facility for not less than 45 days but not more than 120 days, according to court records.
Judge Wes Tidwell handed down the sentence Aug. 10 after Jetton’s multiple arrests while serving as mayor of Lamar County’s second-largest city.
A misdemeanor charge of harassment was also dismissed, according to court records.
Jetton originally pled guilty to aggravated assault with a deadly weapon in September 2022 and was placed on probation until a second arrest in May for harassment led to its revocation.
The Texas Department of Criminal Justice website lists Jetton as an inmate at the East Texas Treatment Facility in Henderson, Texas.
The East Texas Treatment Facility is a private prison providing a wide variety of addiction recovery and therapy treatment programs to help inmates overcome addictive behaviors, according to a brochure from its parent company Management and Training Corporation.
Reno police and Lamar County sheriff’s deputies were called to Jetton’s residence on Oct. 27, 2021, for a family disturbance, which ended with an agreed temporary separation of parties involved, according to information released at the time by the City of Reno.
After an investigation by Texas Rangers, Jetton was arrested on Nov. 24, 2021, for aggravated assault with a deadly weapon and released from county jail later that day on a $100,000 bond, according to court records.
During the altercation, Jetton reportedly pointed a pistol at his wife and 13-year-old daughter and made multiple threats to murder his wife in an expletive-filled argument over money and marijuana, according to an affidavit.
An alternative for those charged with probation or parole violations, an ISF provides treatment options for substance abusers in a controlled environment, according to the Texas Department of Criminal Justice.
The facilities were authorized by the Texas Legislature in 2021 to help alleviate crowded prison populations, according to a Texas Board of Pardons and Paroles policy.
