Macxie House News to Host Autumn Tea Party

The Sam Bell Maxey House State Historic Site will focus on tea and the language of flowers as it hosts an “Autumn Tea Party” on November 19th at 2pm. Events are $5 per person. Registration is required and space is very limited. Those interested in attending are encouraged to register by calling 903-785-5716.

Tea Party guests can enjoy a variety of hot teas and sweets while learning about Victorian-era flower arrangements from Eisenhower Birthplace State Historic Site educator Jennifer Parsley. The Parsely presentation will be followed by an activity that will give guests the opportunity to hone their hidden floral message skills, just like in the Victorian era. The event concludes with a female-focused, self-guided tour of Maxie House.

“Flowers are an important part of Maxie House’s history because both Marilda Maxie and Lara Long were avid collectors and admirers of flowers,” said Elana Barton, site educator. .
