In In this month’s podcast, Ukraine-based journalist Glenn Johnson discusses an article in the magazine’s June issue. Le Monde Diplomatic, “Tough Choices for Moldova’s Future”. The key choice facing this landlocked former Soviet republic is whether to maintain its strict neutrality or seek protection under the NATO umbrella.

Mr Johnson described Moldova’s initial reaction to the Ukraine war as “perfect”. But since then, the government has turned sharply toward ethnic nationalism and taken an increasingly tough stance on domestic security, he said.
