After Monday night’s hearing, the ISD board in Paris cut the 2022 property tax rate by 6 cents to $1.1919 per $100 valuation. A $100,000 home owner would pay $1,120 in property taxes annually.
The reduction in tax rates is a result of state-mandated maintenance and operating tax cuts to reduce the pressure on taxpayers from rising property values.
“Taxpayers appreciate low tax rates and I think they appreciate that we are good stewards of taxes,” Superintendent Paul Jones said. Look what we’re doing: middle school offices, Crockett offices, new roofs, etc. We’ve spent millions of dollars, but we don’t need to go to the taxpayers to raise taxes. There was not.”
During the budget revision, the board decided to expand the district’s baseball-softball complex with the intention of making the off-site location permanent, rather than relocating the field to the high school campus as in previous plans. Finalized $3.8 million to improve facility The Hill.
Improvements include synthetic turf on both fields, softball field lighting that mirrors the ballpark, and new changing rooms and concession/restroom facilities at the ballpark.
“We have a pre-construction meeting tomorrow and our goal is to play on that turf in the spring,” said business manager Tish Holleman.
The Board of Trustees said as of September 13, the district had increased 42 students from the same period last year and 182 students since the last day of school, for a total of 3,884 students enrolled, the Vice Superintendent said. I learned from Althea Dixon’s report.
“It’s not a statewide trend,” Jones said, noting that enrollment numbers are generally declining. showed a decrease.
