The final 80-hour (5-week) free industry preparation program at Paris Junior College kicks off on Saturday for 20 lucky students. The course runs from September 17th to he October 23rd, every Saturday and Sunday from 9am to 5:30pm.
Previous requirements for a GED or high school diploma are waived for the final course. If taken as an individual class, this training would have cost her $2,400, while the student’s cost will be covered by the Texas Higher Education Coordinating Commission’s Skills Re-education and Upskilling (TRUE) Agency for Education in Texas. It is funded by a capacity grant. The program provides access to entry-level positions so students can undergo on-the-job training to qualify for high-demand occupations.
This course covers safety training, forklift operation, technical and applied math skills, logistics training, electrical hazard training, fall protection, blueprint reading, and more.
This program also provides students with the knowledge and skills necessary to pursue additional training in related PJC workforce programs and certifications. Upon successful completion of the program, the student will earn her OSHA General Industry 10-Hour, Forklift Operator, and Fall Protection certifications.
The skills in this program are taught through many of PJC’s workforce education programs (excluding Forklift Operator, OSHA Fall Protection, and OSHA 10-Hour General Industry) and are used by students as they transition to a certificate or applied science degree. Helpful. Stackable programs offered by PJC include Air Conditioning and Refrigeration, Electricians, Mechatronics, Welding, and Computer Aided Design.
