RWRRV marks Black History Month with meetings | News

On Thursday night, those who attended a celebration of Republican Women in the Red River Valley for Black American History Month posthumously honored the late Rev. By the way, I heard from Eric Simien.

About 30 people gathered to hear Breakthrough Reverend Gordon Burns talk about the impact Mitchell had on those he touched and how he was a great prayer warrior for the church.

He always started his prayers like this: Thank you,” Burns said. “I want to hear those words again. I am honored to be here tonight to pay tribute to a great man. He was well known in this community, respected and loved by many.” .”

Burns acknowledged Mitchell as a “good Republican”.

“He was a great man, so it was more than that,” Burns said. “Becoming a Republican in Lamar County was not always easy for a black man in the community. But Marcus had an attitude about him, a way of being loved by people, and wasn’t afraid to express his love.

In her opening remarks, RWRRV President Cynthia Timms called Mitchell “a man on fire for Jesus.”

“Things happened when he prayed,” said Timms.

Earlier in the evening, Simien, Fallon’s representative for the Constitutional Service in Rep. Sherman’s office, preceded his remarks by acknowledging Black History Month recognition that night.

“I don’t like to call it Black History Month because Black history is American history,” Simien applauded. Not only that, but I lost my life in the end.”

Over the next 40 minutes, Simien, a California native from Los Angeles, shared how he met and worked for a Congressman, a friend from the University of Notre Dame. He provided insight into both the work of his staff in his Washington DC office and his New York regional offices in Boston, Sherman and Rockwall.

Simien encouraged contact with district offices.

“You have to take advantage of us,” Simien explained, adding that the district office has a number of agencies including veterans affairs, the IRS, Social Security, Medicare, Medicaid, and other federal agencies that affect people’s lives. I explained that there are assigned people in place to assist the various constituencies. Simien also has a district website fallon.house.gov Submit a request for assistance and subscribe to the district newsletter.

Speakers provided words of encouragement and emphasized the importance of staying involved in local, state, and national politics, and in educating others about the issues.

“When the news says a lot, it’s geared to give up,” Simien said. “It’s important for groups like this to come together, fellowship, excite, communicate and educate.”

Lamar County Republican Chairman Scott Hommel then gave an update on the upcoming city and school board election campaigns and introduced incumbent Mihir Pankaj on the Paris City Council. Hommel encouraged Pankaj’s support as mayor because he encouraged him to attend city council meetings after his May election, in which the city council would elect a new mayor.
