State Athletes: Four Students Spotlight Bands, Choirs | News

Four students from high schools in North Lamar and Paris won honors for state band and choir places at the Texas Music Educators Association’s area tryouts in Nacogdoches and Plano on January 7. rice field.

Dylan Melvin of North Lamarr and Anderson Bunch of Paris were named to the Allstate Band, while Jonathan Young of Paris High School and Kenzie Pence of North Lamarr High School were named to the Allstate Choir.

The Bunch won state band honors for the second year in a row. He placed 3rd in an area audition for students throughout northeastern Texas and earned a spot in the TMEA All-State Band. Bunch was a Parisian high school student who formed a band for the first time since 2009.

Pence was selected to the All-State Choir through a competitive process held at district, regional and regional levels throughout the state this year. She is a student of Rebecca Hildreth, who is a member of TMEA, her 14,000-member organization headquartered in Austin.

Young was selected as the third busmaster in the area’s auditions and became the first Parisian student to be selected for the All-State Choir in five years. Young’s audition process included excerpts of his six songs in his four languages: English, French, Swedish and Latin. His road to state includes regional, pre-area and area tryouts, requiring him to be in the top percentage of each tryout group to advance to the next round.

This will be Melvin’s first time playing with the TMEA Allstate Band. Melvin plays the saxophone.
