CLARKSVILLE — The Red River Commissioner voted during a meeting at the County Annex Building to allow members to do a little cleaning of the precinct on Monday.
Commissioners David Hudson, Jeff Moore and Bruce Embry all said they have equipment they need to dispose of, and a vote will allow them to fund the equipment through Auctioneer Express.
Commissioner Moore said some of the equipment he was stripping was no longer in use by his crew.
Commissioner Embry, who is serving his first term after the November election, said he was trying to get rid of equipment he found was not working when he took office.
Meko Carter and Jessica Humphrey, county extension workers, talked about the work the agents did last year.
“We had 281 volunteers contribute over 5,000 hours,” Carter told the commissioner, adding that those free hours were worth about $151,636 to the county.
She told them about the success of various programs that make residents think about fitness, such as Walk Across Texas and Kids Marathon.
Humphrey told commissioners that her program was also booming.
Her focus is on beef cattle, lumber, crops, and now real estate.
She also told the commissioner that the county’s 4-H program is healthy with many enthusiastic young people.
“4-H keeps me very busy,” she said. “The program has seen tremendous growth. It has doubled in number from last year.”
The Commissioner has also given approval to a number of items that allow the county to apply for grants from the Texas Community Development Block Grant Program.
The commissioner also voted to extend the supplemental payroll program to patrol employees for the next 90 days.
The Commissioner also appointed Sharon Conway, Judy Christford, and Becky Travillion to the Country Libraries Board.
