Hampered by rain, a leak was reported late Monday afternoon by specialist staff into one of two supply lines that deliver treated water from the Paris water treatment plant on Loch Crook to customers in the city and county. Repaired the spot.
Following Monday’s voluntary water-saving request, city officials issued a “total lift” for customers to return to “normal” water usage by noon on Friday, according to a press release. Non-essential water use is no longer happening and water treatment plants are operating at full capacity.
At one time, both the 30-inch and 33-inch lines were thought to be leaking. However, when workers were able to drill a large hole in which the pipe was embedded and remove the water, they discovered that only 30 inches of the line was leaking.
Considering the location and nature of the leak, engage a professional contractor to install a water pressure stop upstream of the leak to prevent water from flowing back into the area and access the affected area to provide necessary repairs can be performed. A year-old section of Pipe, according to the release.
After the 30-inch supply was successfully shut off and no water flow, workers excavated around and under the affected area of the pipe, installed large clamps on the pipe to repair the damaged area, and I was able to get ready to fix the leak. A few days after the project started, the release read:
“During the remediation process, treated water continued to be pushed by 33-inch pipe supply lines to above-ground and elevated storage tanks throughout the city,” the release said. “With the necessary adjustments made by city officials to production and running water processes, and the cooperation of citizens, commercial businesses and industrial partners who played a role in conserving water and eliminating unnecessary water use, the city water service was uninterrupted.
“The quality of the water produced at the water treatment plant did not deteriorate,” the statement continued. “City officials worked hard to maintain adequate water levels and successfully eliminated the need to issue boiling water notices, which was their primary purpose.”
