Team sports are a way for children to stay active, build character, and build lasting friendships. And there are many ways for the children of Lamar County to participate in these team sports.
For boys and girls in Paris who are just starting out in baseball, there is the Paris Optimist Club, which has teams for young children and teenagers. From 3 years old she has a team for children up to 15 years old.
The league enjoys two seasons each year: a spring season and a small fall ball season. Nearly 650 of his children have signed up for the club this spring season.
The club has also developed a reputation for success in recent years. In 2019, the 9U team won his DYB (Dixie Youth Baseball) World Series and played youth teams across the country. And in 2020, they won the 10U state championship even though the coronavirus pandemic prevented the World Series from taking place. In 2021, his 6U team in the league were state champions and World Series runners-up. The team achieved pinnacle rewards in 2022 by becoming both the Texas DYB 7U State Champion and his DYB 7U World Series Champion.
“Of course, we’re proud of all our kids, but if the team can do that, it’s incredibly exciting, not just for the kids, but for everyone.” It’s been a lot of hard work and dedication, and it’s great to see it all pay off.”
The season will begin in March, and registration for the fall 2023 season will likely open in May, Vaughan said. For registration and updates on the upcoming season, please visit the Paris Optimist Club Facebook page for regular updates.
“Fall ball is not part of DYB, but it’s a good way for kids to get more playing time and adjust to new age brackets,” Vaughan said. “It helps you get used to a higher level of play when you transition from tee-ball to coach pitch or from coach pitch to pitching your opponent.”
This year also marks the successful bid for the Paris Optimist Club to host the DYB All-Star Regional Tournament during the postseason.
The Charles Taylor Youth Complex at Woodall Fields, home of Paris Optimist Baseball, will host the North Regional District I and II Coach Pitch Tournaments and the North Regional District I and II Ozone Tournaments from June 24-26. It will be held from the 1st of the month. 3. The Club will also host an All-Star Warmup Tournament in T-Ball via Ranger League teams prior to the start of the DYB Tournament to participate in matches against out-of-town opponents.
“We are really happy,” says Vaughan. “This is a big thing for the club and for Paris as a whole. and shop at the business … but we need the support and volunteers of the community to keep everything running smoothly. We are looking for local businesses to sponsor us during the tournament to help offset the $25,000 we earned. ed.parisoptimist@gmail.com.
For girls who want to try their hand at fast-paced softball, the Paris Ranger League is run by the City of Paris.
With an average of 100-200 kids participating each season, the Paris Ranger League will face teams from local communities such as Blossom, Bogata, Bonham, Cooper and Detroit. The season then concludes with regional and statewide competitions.
“It’s a great way for girls to develop social skills and learn all about softball for their future endeavours,” said Recreation Supervisor Jeremy Smith.
“The program has looked like it has struggled in recent years, but with such a high turnout this spring season, we are hopeful that the program will reach its full potential. said Mr Smith.
The fast-pitch league will have teams ranging from 6U to 15U, but the size of individual teams varies according to yearly attendance, Smith said.
Many of the girls who participated in the Ranger League as children have found success on their high school’s Diamond softball team, Smith said.
“The most rewarding part so far is watching the girls grow as ballplayers and as people.
